Locate Database – NAPA TRACS (Legacy)
Overview
Accounting Link must be mapped in configuration to the NAPA TRACS database in order to pull the financial data.
The location of the NAPA TRACS database is found in NAPA TRACS Networkconfig.exe. ALWAYS use this tool to find the database location. If the computer that hosts Accounting Link does not have TRACS installed on it, it is necessary to dial into another computer at the shop that does have TRACS installed on it to access NAPA TRACS Networkconfig.exe.
Resolution
Accounting Link’s path to the NAPA TRACS database involves two components:
- The server name.
- The server name is entered in the Data Server Name field in Accounting Link configuration when Accounting Link is installed on a workstation, multiple workstations, or the server AND a workstation.
- The database path.
- The default database path is C:\NAPA\TRACS\db\TRACS.fdb.
- When browsing for the database, this is the path that is used. It is extremely rare for the path to differ from the default path.
To find the NAPA TRACS database location:
- On a computer which has NAPA TRACS installed, browse to C:\NAPA\TRACS\Utility.
- In the Utility folder, find Networkconfig.exe and double click on it to open the NAPA TRACS Network Troubleshooter Utility.
- In the upper right quadrant of the NAPA TRACS Network Troubleshooter Utility window, the Server Name and Server Path are displayed.
- If the Server Name is blank, this indicates that the computer is the NAPA TRACS server.
- If Accounting Link is located on another computer (not the server), the server’s computer name must be identified. Go to Start, right clicking on Computer, and selecting Properties. The computer’s name will be listed.
- If the Server Name is populated, this indicates that the computer is a workstation.
- The Server Name must be entered in Accounting Link’s configuration in the Data Server Name field if Accounting Link is installed on a workstation, multiple workstations, or on the server AND a workstation.
- For example, if the server name displayed is Tracs-Srvr, this name must be entered in the Data Server Name field in Accounting Link.
- Note the Server Path.
- On the server itself, the default Server Path is C:\NAPA\TRACS\db\TRACS.fdb.
- On a workstation, the default Server Path will be SERVERNAME:C:\NAPA\TRACS\db\TRACS.fdb.
- Map the path in Accounting Link.
- Click on Browse and navigate to C:\NAPA\TRACS\db\TRACS.fdb.
- If the computer is not the server, TRACS.fdb will not be in the db folder. Simply type “TRACS.fdb” in the File Name field of the search box and click open.
- Enter the Server Name in the Data Server Name field.
